Board Directors provides strategic direction and oversight to the Council. The Board is appointed by the Minister, who considers their diverse skills, experiences and expertise that would aid the Council in fulfilling its mandate. The appointment process also ensures that relevant stakeholders are represented on the Council’s supervisory body.
Mr. Geoffrey Mahlaka

Mr. Geoffrey Mahlaka
Mr. Geoffrey Mahlaka is a Legal and Risk Management Professional currently and serves as Chairperson of the Council. He holds a Commonwealth Executive MBA from Botswana Open University and an LLB from the University of Botswana and is an admitted Attorney, Conveyancer and Notary Public. He is also a Certified Risk Analyst with additional qualifications in Governance, Risk Management and Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, Board Governance, and Business Sustainability Management.
Mr. Mahlaka has extensive experience in legal practice, governance, compliance, insurance, and enterprise risk management. His expertise in corporate governance, legal advisory services and regulatory compliance enables him to provide effective leadership to the Board and support the Council in advancing professionalism and excellence within Botswana's teaching profession.
Dr. Maipelo Mighty Kesenye

Dr. Maipelo Mighty Kesenye
Dr. Maipelo Mighty Kesenye is a Retired Senior Education Manager and Educationist in the public education sector and currently serves as Vice Chairperson of the Council. She holds a Bachelor of Philosophy in Educational Studies with a specialisation in Guidance and Counselling, and she also holds an Honorary PhD in Leadership
With extensive experience in educational leadership and institutional management, Dr. Kesenye has served in various leadership positions within the Ministry of Higher Education, where she led academic performance improvement initiatives, teacher development programmes, and regional education management activities. Her expertise spans education management, institutional leadership, and the promotion of quality education. Through her experience and commitment to educational excellence, she provides valuable strategic guidance and oversight to the Board.
Dr. Jeffress Ramsay

Dr. Jeffress Ramsay
Dr. Jeffress Ramsay is a distinguished academic, education leader, historian, and governance practitioner. He holds a PhD and Master’s Degree in history from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Ramsay's extensive career spans academia, education management, public service, communications, and research. He has held several senior leadership positions, including Principal of Legae Academy, Deputy Director at Botswana Public Service College, Deputy Senior Private Secretary and Press Secretary to the President, and Teaching Fellow and Lecturer at internationally renowned institutions such as Harvard University and Boston University. His extensive governance experience, strategic leadership capabilities, and policy expertise enable him to provide valuable guidance and oversight to the Board, particularly in matters relating to institutional governance, stakeholder engagement, and organisational development.

Mr. Keaboka McAlfred Modise is a Retired Educational Professional and a respected community leader. He holds qualifications in Technical Education and Teacher Training from Botswana Polytechnic and the College of St. Mark & St. John College in the United Kingdom.
Mr. Modise’s professional career spans to teaching, technical education, sports administration, and management within both the education and private sectors. He has also played a prominent leadership role within Botswana National Parents Teachers Association, advocating for stronger collaboration between schools, parents, and communities. His diverse experience in education, business, and community leadership enables him to bring valuable stakeholder and parental perspectives to the Board's governance and decision-making processes.

Dr. Moses Balipi Mputshana is a Bishop and an experienced leader with a strong background in financial administration, organisational leadership, and conflict management. He holds a PhD in Christian Counselling and Conflict Management, a Master’s Degree in Ministerial Ethics, Leadership and Administrative Planning, and qualifications in accounting and business communication.
His professional career spans over four decades across both the corporate and religious sectors, including roles in Debswana Diamond Company, Building Material Supplies, and J. Haskins & Sons. Through his extensive leadership experience and expertise in ethics and conflict resolution, Dr. Mputshana brings valuable insight and a community focused perspective to the Board's strategic oversight and decision-making processes.

Ms. Constance Male is an accomplished educational leader. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and a Diploma in Secondary Education from the University of Botswana and has built a distinguished career in educational leadership, curriculum development, and institutional management.
Throughout her career, she has served in various leadership roles, including Head of Department, Deputy School Head, and School Head. She has also contributed to national education initiatives, including the development of the BGCSE Geography syllabus and the delivery of national teacher training programmes. Ms. Male has demonstrated strong leadership and education advocacy. Her extensive experience in school governance, strategic planning, and educational excellence enables her to make a significant contribution to the Board's oversight and decision-making responsibilities.

His career in education spans over four decades and includes service as a Mathematics Teacher, Head of Department, Deputy Principal, and Principal. Through these roles, he has gained extensive experience in academic leadership, strategic planning, school governance, and stakeholder management. As the head of a leading private educational institution, Mr. Peloewetse brings valuable expertise in educational administration, organizational leadership, and governance, enabling him to contribute effectively to the Board's strategic direction and oversight responsibilities.

His career spans leadership positions in both local and international educational institutions, including serving as Head of School and Assistant Programme Coordinator. As the leader of one of Botswana's leading independent schools, Mr. Evans brings valuable expertise in private education, institutional excellence, and governance, enabling him to contribute meaningfully to the Board's strategic oversight and decision-making responsibilities.

Mr. Othusitse Shima Kgaswane
Mr. Othusitse Shima Kgaswane is a Senior Teacher specialising in Guidance and Counselling with over 17 years of experience in the education sector. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Primary Education and a Diploma in Primary Education and is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in Human Resources and Industrial Relations through Botswana Open University.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Kgaswane is a Member of Botswana Teachers Union (BTU), where he plays a key role in advocating for the welfare and professional interests of teachers. His experience spans learner support, teacher development, labour relations, and stakeholder engagement within the education sector. Through his leadership in both education and union representation, he brings valuable insights into teacher welfare and professional standards, enabling him to contribute effectively to the Board's governance and strategic oversight responsibilities.

Mr. Kenathata Dipogiso
Mr. Kenathata Dipogiso is an experienced education sector advocate with extensive experience in teaching and teacher representation. He holds a Diploma in Primary Education and has dedicated his career to advancing quality education and supporting the professional development of educators.
In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Dipogiso has played an active role in teacher representation and advocacy through Botswana Teachers Union (BTU). He is currently serving his second term as a Member of the Council’s Board. His experience in education, stakeholder engagement, and union representation enables him to provide valuable insights on teacher welfare, professional standards, and matters affecting the education sector, thereby contributing effectively to the Board's governance and strategic oversight responsibilities
Mr. Botshelo Maruatona

Mr. Botshelo Maruatona
Mr. Botshelo Maruatona is a seasoned teacher specialising in English Language and Literature, with more than 18 years of experience in secondary school education. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities, a Postgraduate Diploma in Education from the University of Botswana and has undertaken postgraduate studies in Organisational Development and Peace and Conflict Studies. He has also completed training in Corporate Governance, further enhancing his leadership and governance capabilities.
In addition to his teaching career, Mr. Maruatona serves within the leadership structures of Botswana Sectors of Educators Trade Union (BOSETU), where he contributes to the advancement of teachers' professional interests and welfare. His extensive experience in education, organisational leadership, labour representation, and governance enables him to bring valuable perspectives on teacher development, stakeholder engagement, and professional standards to the Board.

Ms. Beauty Abbey
Ms. Beauty Abbey is a Retired Special Education specialist with extensive experience in inclusive education, learner support services, and educational assessment. She holds a Master of Arts in Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs from Roehampton University and Charles University, a Bachelor of Education (Honours) from the University of Cardiff, and a Primary Teachers Certificate from Lobatse Teachers College.
Throughout her distinguished career, Ms. Abbey served in various specialist education roles within the Ministry of Education and Skills Development, including positions in the Department of Special Support Services and the Central Resource Centre for Assessment. She played a key role in the development and implementation of programmes aimed at supporting learners with special educational needs, promoting inclusive education, and enhancing access to quality education for all learners. Her extensive experience in learner assessment, educational support services, and inclusive education enables her to provide valuable expertise and insight to the Board, particularly on matters relating to educational equity, accessibility, and learner welfare.

Mr. Steve Bothasitse
Mr. Steve Bothasitse is the Secretary-General Education at the Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education. He holds a Master’s Degree in Olympic Studies from the University of Cologne in Germany, a Bachelor of Education in Science from the University of Botswana, and several professional certifications in Enterprise Risk Management, Corporate Governance, Finance for Non-Finance Managers, Human Resource Management, and Occupational Health and Safety.
Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Bothasitse has held several senior leadership positions within the education and sports sectors, including Director of Sports Development at Botswana National Sports Commission. Mr. Bothasitse brings valuable leadership and policy insights to the Board, supporting its oversight responsibilities and commitment to strengthening professional standards within the teaching profession

Dr. Ngati has extensive experience in quality assurance, accreditation, and regulatory compliance within Botswana's education sector. Throughout her career, she has held several key positions in registration and accreditation. In addition to her professional accomplishments, Dr. Ngati has previously served as a member of the Council’s Board, providing her with valuable institutional knowledge and governance experience. Her expertise in accreditation, quality assurance, education policy, and standards management enables her to make a significant contribution to the Board's oversight responsibilities and its commitment to promoting excellence and professionalism within the teaching profession.

Over the course of his distinguished career, Mr. Othusitse served as Headmaster of several secondary schools across Botswana, including Naledi Secondary School, Francistown Secondary School, and Ghanzi Senior Secondary School. He also held various leadership positions, including Deputy Headmaster and Assistant Headmaster, where he played a key role in academic administration and school governance. His extensive experience in educational leadership and institutional management enables him to provide valuable strategic insight and guidance to the Board.
