BOTEPCO Supports GBV Survivors Through “A Council That Cares”

Tuesday 25 November, 2025

The Botswana Teaching Professionals Council’s (BOTEPCO) “A Council That Cares” charity initiative continues to make a tangible impact within the community. In support of the 16 Days of Activism under the theme “Unite to End Digital Violence Against Women and Girls”, BOTEPCO staff presented donations to the Botswana Gender Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Support Centre on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, in Gaborone.

More than a charitable gesture, this initiative strengthens the life-saving work being done to protect survivors, provide refuge and help GBV victims rebuild their lives with dignity. Through this staff-led initiative, BOTEPCO demonstrated that a caring council is one that stands with its community, prioritises humanity and acts where compassion is needed most.

Receiving the donations on behalf of the Centre, Chief Executive Officer Ms Lorato Moalusi expressed heartfelt gratitude to BOTEPCO for its support. She emphasised the urgent need for gender-based violence to be recognised as a national crisis to ensure adequate resource allocation and, highlighting the rise of digital violence, noted that social media has become a battleground where victims are often defenceless and harmful content spreads rapidly and permanently. She urged the public to hold open family conversations about gender-based violence, especially during the festive season, stressing that it is a collective responsibility.

The donation handover ceremony was marked by heartfelt reflections and a strong sense of unity, reinforcing the transformative impact of cross-sector collaboration.
