Botswana has been hailed for successfully hosting the 13th Africa Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities (AFTRA) Teaching & Learning Conference and 15th Roundtable from 5th–8th May 2026 at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC). The Official Opening Ceremony was graced by the President of the Republic of Botswana, Advocate Duma Gideon Boko who delivered an impactful and transformational keynote address on Tuesday 5th May 2026.
Officially opening the conference, President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko stated, “As highlighted, AFTRA itself sits at the heart of that continental effort. Its mission is to raise teacher education, teacher practice and teacher status to the highest possible standards through networking, solidarity, cooperation and the promotion of African philosophy and holistic education. That mission is not decorative. It is strategic. It recognises that professionalisation is not merely about recognition; it is about standards, legitimacy, public trust, mobility, accountability and the protection of learners. And this is why we are happy to be hosting the AFTRA Conference and Roundtable.” He further encouraged African countries to develop homegrown educational solutions rooted in African realities and priorities.
