The Botswana Teaching Professionals Council (BOTEPCO) officially launched the Teacher Registration and Licensing System (TRLS) on 21 October 2025, marking an important milestone in the formal registration and licensing of teachers in Botswana.
Since its launch, 1,271 teachers have been licensed to date, reflecting continued progress in bringing teachers into the regulated teaching profession.
Teacher Registration and Licensing is important in ensuring that individuals practising as teachers meet the prescribed professional requirements and are recognised as members of a regulated profession. It promotes professional accountability, adherence to professional and ethical standards, quality teaching practice and public confidence in the teaching profession.
Through Teacher Registration and Licensing, BOTEPCO continues to strengthen the professionalisation of teaching and ensure that teachers practise in accordance with established professional standards and regulatory requirements.
